Chelsea Pursue Garnacho from Manchester United as Transfer Deadline Nears

Let’s dive into the latest transfer news making waves: Chelsea is reportedly in discussions to bring Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United to Stamford Bridge. Much like my attempts to explain to my partner why I need yet another football subscription, the Blues are convinced that they need one more winger in their lineup.

A Separate Pursuit

This potential move for Garnacho is separate from Chelsea’s ongoing interest in Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig. The 21-year-old Argentine appears keen on the switch to West London, with Chelsea eager to strengthen their left-sided attacking options.

Previously, Chelsea opted against a permanent deal for Jadon Sancho, choosing instead to pay a £5 million penalty to Manchester United rather than activating a buy clause of up to £25 million. With Mykhailo Mudryk currently unavailable due to an anti-doping violation and Sporting’s Geovany Quenda not arriving until summer 2026, Chelsea believes they need another winger urgently. This could also result in the young standout Tyrique George being loaned out or even sold.

Chelsea’s Valuation of Garnacho

Chelsea values Garnacho at around £30 million and has strategically delayed negotiations, anticipating a drop in United’s asking price as deadline day approaches. A loan with a conditional obligation to buy remains an option, although sources at United insist they prefer a permanent deal.

The Red Devils had initially valued Garnacho as high as £60 million back in January, when both Chelsea and Napoli expressed interest. However, that asking price has now been reduced to £50 million. Chelsea is optimistic they can negotiate further, particularly with Benjamin Sesko set to join Old Trafford from Leipzig soon.

Personal Terms and Managerial Insights

Personal terms are unlikely to be a hurdle, as Garnacho reportedly favors the Chelsea switch and wishes to remain in the Premier League, despite Aston Villa also monitoring his situation. New United manager Ruben Amorim has made it clear that Garnacho does not fit into his plans. The winger didn’t feature in pre-season, and whispers of his departure have circulated for quite some time.

Speaking during pre-season, Amorim stated, “Garnacho is a really talented boy, but sometimes things don’t work out. He wants a different challenge, and I can understand that. We need to make sure the transition is smooth for everyone involved.”

Departure of Teammates

With Marcus Rashford already departing on loan to Barcelona after being told he could leave, Garnacho may soon follow him out the exit door. Much like my betting slips on weekends, United’s squad appears to be thinning by the minute.
